Elisabetta Benassi
Elisabetta Benassi was born in 1966 in Rome where she lives and works today. Elisabetta creates densely emotive installations, photographs, performances and videos, her work is rich in literary, cinematographic, psychoanalytical, and political references. Her videos in particular express self-conscious and contradictory visions of the world: one vision that tends to be rational and technological while the other is amorphous, dream-like and emotional. The protagonists of Benassi's work tend to be androgynous, anxiously formulaic, doubles or twins; symbolic figures that animate a shocking and visionary reality. Elisabetta has shown internationally including the 2nd Berlin Biennal in 2001, Manifesta 4, Frankfurt in 2002 and in 2004 she showed her work 'Tutti morimmo a stento', at MACRO, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Rome. Elisabetta works with Magazzino d'Arte moderna, Roma.
